Denture relines involve the resurfacing of the tissue side of a denture with new material, improving its fit against the gum. This process becomes necessary over time due to natural changes in the mouth, such as bone and gum tissue resorption, weight loss, or aging, all of which can cause dentures to become loose or uncomfortable. There are three types of relines: hard relines, soft relines, and temporary relines. Hard relines involve the replacement of the denture's plastic lining with new hardened material, providing a snug and comfortable fit. Soft relines cater to patients with tender gums and involve the application of a softer, more pliable lining material. Temporary relines, often made of medicated material, are used in cases of severely inflamed and sensitive gums, allowing the gums to heal before a more permanent solution is applied. It is recommended that denture wearers get their dentures professionally relined every one to two years for optimum comfort and function. Consult with your Denturist for loose or ill-fitting dentures.
