Maxillofacial Prosthetics (Facial Prosthetics) in Seattle

Dr. Min S. Kim is one of the few maxillofacial prosthetists in the greater Seattle area. Learn about facial prosthetics for eye, ear, nose, and orbital defects at Comfy Denture & Hearing Clinic.

Maxillofacial prosthetics is a highly specialized field that involves the fabrication of custom prostheses to replace facial structures lost to cancer, trauma, or congenital conditions. Dr. Min S. Kim at Comfy Denture & Hearing Clinic is one of the few practitioners in the greater Seattle and Tacoma area with this specialized expertise.

Facial prostheses can replace the eye (ocular prosthesis), the ear (auricular prosthesis), the nose (nasal prosthesis), or the entire orbital region around the eye (orbital prosthesis). Each prosthesis is custom-crafted from medical-grade silicone and hand-painted by Dr. Kim to match the patient's skin tone, texture, and features with remarkable realism.

Patients who benefit from maxillofacial prosthetics include those who have undergone surgery for head and neck cancers, experienced traumatic facial injuries, or were born with conditions such as microtia (absence of the outer ear) or anophthalmia (absence of an eye). For these patients, a well-crafted prosthesis can be transformative — restoring appearance, confidence, and quality of life.

Dr. Kim also fabricates intraoral prostheses such as obturators (for patients who have had part of the palate removed) and palatal lift prostheses for patients with velopharyngeal insufficiency. These devices restore speech and swallowing function following oral cancer surgery or other procedures.
