After teeth are removed, the jawbone gradually resorbs (shrinks) over time. This is a natural biological process, but it means that dentures that fit well when first made will gradually become looser as the underlying bone changes. Signs You Need a Reline

Common signs that your dentures need a reline include: the denture feels loose or rocks when you chew, you need more adhesive than you used to, you have sore spots or irritation on your gums, or your bite feels different than it used to. If you notice any of these signs, it's time to schedule a reline evaluation.

There are two main types of relines: chairside (soft) relines and laboratory relines. A chairside reline can be done in a single appointment and provides a temporary improvement in fit. How Often Should You Reline?

We recommend denture relines every two to three years for most patients. Some patients may need relines more frequently, particularly in the first few years after getting dentures when bone resorption is most rapid. Regular check-ups at our clinic allow us to monitor your denture fit and recommend relines at the appropriate time.

A reline is a much more economical option than replacing your dentures entirely. If your dentures are otherwise in good condition but have become loose, a reline can restore their fit and extend their useful life by several years.
